5 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck   March 19, 2007

My wife owns the gunmetal black high end v-moda earbuds and to tell the truth, those have NOTHING on these as far as sound (except for looking cooler and costing twice as much). Yes, they may be a little more durable (and heavy) due to material (metal vs plastic), but as far as sound goes, you will NOT be disappointed with these. Now having said that, you must experiment with the various ear inserts so that you get the one that fits "just right". But when you find that, you will be amazed at the sound of these. They are also extremely comfortable.

5 out of 5 stars Lovin' them so far!   March 2, 2007

I bought a Sansa E-250 (reviewed elsewhere) which I really like. I thought the sound was good but I didn't care much for the earbuds. They were quite uncomfortable after wearing them awhile.

I began shopping around for replacements, but shopping online is difficult because you can't test the sound or the comfort. So, I relied on the good reviewers here at Amazon. My search led me to these V-MODA Bass Freq earbuds. I chose the black.

The only negative to these earbuds is the difficulty in getting them out of the packaging. Once that was done, I plugged them into the E-250 and gave them a try. You really need to experiment with all the earpieces. I started with the small but they were too loose to give good sound and they fell out. Like Goldilocks, I kept trying the different sizes, until I found the best fit. Once you find the best fit, you will also experience the best sound.

I was extremely pleased with the sound of these earbuds. They are far better than the ones that came with the Sansa and WAY more comfortable. I have not touched the equalizer yet, because I'm pleased with the sound, but I'll probably experiment with it to see if I can improve the sound even more.

These earbuds are a great bang for the buck. They sound great and are comfortable in the ears. It's a totally new listening experience.

5 out of 5 stars Wish I Had of Read the Reviews First   December 14, 2006

Since my ear canals are small, the earphones that came with my new iRiver Clix did not fit at all. So for the first time, I really went looking for a new pair of earphones. I was also looking to get the most out of my Clix. I went onto Cnet reviews and read about the Shure's, the Etymotic's, and the Sennheiser's. The Sennheiser CX300-B was the only one in my price range. Forget them. The Sennheiser's were too bassy for me; they drown out the treble. I eventually lucked on the reviews for the V-Moda's. They were rated excellent by Cnet, and I concur. The V-Moda's are better and cheaper than the Sennheiser's. The bass thump's, but does not drown out the middle and high ranges. If you only have about $40-$50 bucks to spend, spend it on the V-Moda Bass Frequency Earphones, even if you are a music purist. You can always adjust the bass, if your player has a graphic equalizer.

5 out of 5 stars Does what is claimed   March 2, 2007

Given the price these are great earbuds. Definitely lots of bass, yet lower midrange is not muddy. If you get them in right, the trebble is there, clean and detailed, however the emphasized bass may have you reaching for the EQ occasionally. I was pleasantly surprised by the even emphasis, runs from low B to high G sound great. Even with the bass emphasis, I was impressed with the amount of inner detail. Jamerson's rythm fingering on old Motown tracks (converted from LPs and 45s to MP3) is clearly evident (try the "unsanitized" original mono 45 of Love Is Here And Now You're Gone by the Supremes). On Take It Away by Wings the bass line always seemed to muddy up when the full mix came in but with these little buds you can follow it all the way through. Admittedly these examples are originally analog. On the latest digital stuff subjected to all the time domain trickery modern recording techniques provide (sub sonic hyping to see the woofers flail) the bass may be uncomfortably loud at levels that allow you to perceive "normal" trebble. On Sunday Morning (studio mix) by Maroon 5, the electric bass was OK but the hyped kick drum was over the top. But, since these buds are responsive to equalization, and given they deliver LOTS of bass as claimed, they're a steal at the price. They're supplied with three sets of silicon rings to fit different size ear canals. Mine fit well using the small rings, and are very comfortable. I was also impressed with the balance and imaging -- stuff in the middle is right there between your eyes, and the stereo sound stage provide excellent localization. On well recorded studio tracks (I'm listening to Cry On My Shoulder by Bonnie Raitt as I write) all the little percussion details are not only clearly audible but also clearly localizable. These may not be your only set of cans -- becuase of the bass emphasis they "color" everything. But -- once you buy 'em, you 'll be surprised at how often you reach for them.

I have an obsession for headphones, constantly trying out any new ones on the market. These headphones are astonishing for the clarity and accuracy of tone; the bass in an "in ear" headphone is astonishing.
I highly recommend them.
I can also highly recommend the shipper, which performed as promised.
