Great Speaker - for what it is July 17, 2006 M. Miller 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Maybe everyone else is expecting this speaker to blow them away with its volume, but it's not supposed to. It's an ultra-portable speaker, meaning that can be loud enough for one or two people that are not very far away. Honestly, I often turn the volume down so that other people don't get bothered.
Also, unlike what another reviewer said, the battery does not last just one hour. I have owned my Podwave for months and only changed the battery once (and that was just a couple weeks ago).
I love my Podwave and I use it ALL THE TIME. I rarely even use earphones anymore because of this. I use it with my iPod Nano, but I do have to take the Nano out of it's case.
Great Speaker for size August 7, 2006 buystuff (usa) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I like to use this for times when I do not want headphones on but need to be moving around. Works great for it's small size. Battery is AA and last. Easy to replace with rechargeable battery. Do not buy for large area. Anyone who complains probably wanted them to serve as a boombox. Not powerful but perfect for running around with. I have not seen any other options in this size range. Seems a little expensive for size. I've had this for over a year and no problems! As a side note: You can add a cord and use with computer.
Just what I was searching for! March 24, 2006 Rebecca (Seattle) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This small wonder is just what I need for traveling.
-great size
-low price
-sounds wonderful, not tinny or weak at all!
I've used it with mini ipod (connection at the top)
But I purchased it specifically for my nano, (it's connection is at the bottom)perfect for trips
*****Highly recommended!
fyi: you will need to remove your ipod skin (if you use one) from your mini so the connection will fit properly.
Rubber band fixes tinny sound April 10, 2008 Westpole (Kent, WA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have read that Macally updated this product many months ago (and regrettably didn't change the model number). The newer version has more volume, better battery life, and better sound. Many of the more critical reviews may be from people who bought the first version. My unit has met or exceeded my expectations in every category - when operated with a rubber band on it. (Some of the reviewers may also not have considered that they must turn up the ipod volume.)
Initially the door over the battery compartment was difficult to open. After many operations it is now easy to open, but the result is that the door vibrates giving the unit a tinny sound. I solved this problem by putting a rubber band around the cylinder. (Now I use an appropriately sized O ring.) This stops the vibration and the sound is remarkable for such small speakers. It's certainly not in a class with larger speakers, but is terrific for uses requiring small, portable, battery operated speakers.
I bought the podwave to listen to music on long bike rides. It works great for this. I suspend the unit from the back of my bike helmet and use a headphone extender cable to reach the ipod in my jersey pocket. I can hear the music when the road is empty but can always hear the traffic approach. This is much better than any headphone or earbud solution.
Now that I have the podwave, I find that there are times I prefer it to listening with earbuds. It's easier on the ears.
One last thing is that the podwave works fine with a rechargeable NIMH battery.
perfect size, good sound October 29, 2006 Vero Saenz (Monterrey, Mexico) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I ride my bike along a curved mountain road and cannot use earphones with my ipod for obvious security reasons but I still wanted my music with me and this tiny speaker worked perfect for me. The road has little car traffic so most of my ride is very peaceful and quite and I can hear the music loud enough. It's not even necessary to use the highest volume level in my ipod, and I don't recommend it either because the quality of the sound will diminish. This is just what I needed for my bike: small enough to take along and loud enough to enjoy my music. Maybe adding the word "personal" to this speaker will be useful for buyers to understand that this speaker is intended for one person and will not work on large, loud, open spaces with a lot of people around. One of its best features is that it is not loud enough to bother anybody. Not everyone wants to listen to your music anyway.
