It also connects to other portable audio devices, such as MP3 players, CD players, and laptops, via its stereo mini-jack connection. What's in the Box JBL On Stage, wall adapter, iPod adapters, audio cable, and user's manual. An important note from JBL: You may have heard that a very few customers (currently fewer than 1%) have experienced a problem with JBL On Stage. The problem will present itself in one of two ways: Either the unit no longer works or the volume can't be controlled. This condition may occur ONLY if all of the following conditions are present: - You dock your iPod to JBL On Stage while both products are on and
- A significant charge of static electricity transfers from you to the JBL On Stage volume control and
- A specific chip was used in your JBL On Stage.
We want to emphasize that there is no safety issue. JBL is offering to replace your JBL On Stage at no cost to you except for the shipping cost to their warehouse (JBL will pay return shipping), should you have a JBL On Stage with a defective chip. First, find out whether your unit has the defective chip by going to http://www.jbl.com/home/product_support/jblonstage.aspx.

Big sound small package December 18, 2004 C. Muckle (Torrance, CA United States) 47 out of 49 found this review helpful
I was quite impressed with the volume of the Sound Stage. It sounds great also. Just remember that for the best sound you can adjust the equalizer on your iPod.
Three of my friends now have a Sound Stage based solely on how impressed they were with listening to mine.
It is great for taking on the road and listening to in Hotels rooms etc.
Excellent, Excellent Product November 24, 2005 JZ 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I can't really even emphasize how much use and enjoyment I have gotten out of this player in the year I have had it. I might even go so far as to say that I believe you really aren't getting the full value out of your iPod if you don't have these speakers, or at least some other comparable speakers. The sound on these is great, the design is simple and compact yet attractive, and most conveniently of all... your iPod charges while plugged into it.
One thing that might be kind of annoying... if you have a case for your iPod, you'll have to remove it each time you use these speakers. Also, I've never had any problems with these speakers, but apparently there is some sort of malfunctioning chip in some of them. From the sound of it, though, JBL has done as much as they can to fix the problem and replace faulty items.
Overall, I couldn't be much happier with this product and would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.
Also...secret hint: you can mute the player by simultaneously pressing the "+" and "-" button.
Loud, clear, crisp music to my ears!!! October 29, 2005 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This little edible donut shaped speaker is a wonderful accessory. Instead of listening to your music with headphones, you will have loud speakers with crisp sound. You have an included feature. You can mute and unmute, so if you get a phone call, mute the speaker. Fits in a backpack or suitcase for anything trips or going to work. These speakers work with mostly every iPod as follows: (you must have white adapters for different iPods to work on speakers. Set of four are included with speakers.)
iPod mini
iPod
iPod with color display
iPod with clickwheel
iPod Nano (adapter included in Nano box)
does NOT work with photo iPod!!!
Do not go out and buy Bose speakers which have the same crisp sound. Who the heck pays THREE HUNDRED FIFTEEN BUCKS (with tax) on speakers? These speakers are only ONE HUNDRED SEVEN BUCKS on Amazon!!!!!! Come on now??..!!
note: some units are defective. Some of these units have a bad chip inside. Make sure you call or email JBL for a replacement. All you have to do is ship out the defective one and they will replace it. You have to pay for shipping, but when they ship you a new one, thay will pay you back the amount.
Sweet Doughnut- Great Sound and Price November 19, 2005 J. Yeh (Chicago, IL USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
My story: I bought these speakers from Costco about two months ago when I got my Nano for about a shade over 100 dollars. The model didn't have an adapter for the Nano but I figured if it used the same USB port as the Mini and its bigger Ipod cousins, I could play the Nano on it. After fiddling with it and consulting with JBL's support service (via email), it worked. As a tip for anyone trying to play their Nano on the JBL on stage speakers without the new Nano adapter, you can use your mini adapter plus the 30 GB foam back added in. It'll fit in perfectly. You'll need to push it down a little firmly for it to click in. You'll hear this weird, bleep bleep noise. If it doesn't work at first, keep readjusting it carefully but the Nano does work for the On stage speakers without the new Nano adapter.
JBL online support service: Great and quick response. I emailed the guy questions maybe four times the day I bought it and got my responses all within a couple hours each time. Extremely patient and understanding.
Review:
I couldn't be any happier with this product. I had concerns of it shorting out or blowing out the speakers at first after reading the reviews here. But I was careful to not have the Ipod playing before connecting it to the speakers. So far, it works wonderfully. Sound is crisp and clear. I'm a music dabbler so I listen to about anything from Johnny Cash to Lenny Kravitz to Outkast so I needed good range for my money. On Stage provides great base/treble with no distortion at a moderately high volume. What I like about the doughnut shape is I can stick stuff (like the adapters for the other Nano models) in the middle. I like the look with the Ipod in it. Sorta a cradle for the player. The speaker's diameter is about 1.5 times larger than a CD. Some of the little things that I like about the On stage speakers- the volume level on the ipod does not change when you adjust the volume on the speakers. Thus when you take the Nano off of the speakers, it won't be changed to like ear-shattering high. I've heard other Ipod speakers do this to their Ipods. The On stage speakers also charges the Ipod while it's on it.
Cons: The power adapter is clunky and heavy. Won't work well if you're hoping to carry the On stage speakers with ya everywhere and plug and play somewhere else. It took me a while to properly fit the Nano into the Stage speakers. Nano users will run into this problem. You'll need to hear the click and bleep bleep noise before it'll be connected. But it took some fidgeting for it to perfectly fit. For my 20 GB Ipod 4 G and girlfriend's Mini, it was a snap. Just connected in like that.
I had hope that I could upload songs or transfer files onto my Ipod thru the speakers. I like that the On stage speakers charge the Nano but a USB connection would have perfected this product.
The sound control buttons are a little hard to use. It's touch sensitive but sometimes is finicky at touch. A weird aside and con of this product: the speakers go beserk if you use your cell phone nearby it. Starts making this clicking sound and high squeal noise- kinda like when you speak into a microphone plugged in front of your speakers. But this is a minor problem. You have to have your phone like in arm's distance for it to do that.
Another minor problem too is the Ipod won't power down while connected to the speakers even if it's not playing. Because the speakers charge them, it'll show the charging display on the front. I'm not sure if this affects the Ipods but I prefer to have it off completely.
Take away:
The On Stage speakers are a definite upgrade to my standard Dell speakers that came with my computer and my Ipod buds. Never owned any other designated Ipod speakers before but the On stage speakers, for its price and size, are swell. I feel that previous reviews may have been on their mark with the older version of the On stage speakers. But for me, it seems like JBL has rectified previous mistakes and fixed the shortening out bug. My speakers have been working great (knock on wood) for two months and counting.
Amazing Sound, small package March 22, 2005 Firf (San Francisco, CA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
As an audiophile, I can definitely state for the minimal dollars spend (about $100 on Amazon), this unit sounds great. I use it in a large bathroom and in hotel rooms and you would think I had a large boombox in the room (with crisper highs and more accurate bass). The bass is quite impressive for such a small unit. The overall sound quality is quite impressive as well considering how few watts the unit has at its disposal. And the unit, which may not be as portable as others (but it is small), it is solid, does not have folding or bending parts that can break and could easily fit in a suitcase or carry-on. For the money, you'll not find better. If you are looking to have an outdoor superjam with all of our buddies, then you might want to simply get a boombox with an external input. The JBL also looks great.
No real complaints at all. Even the touch volume is nice. Others have more buttons, but no need here, they are in easy reach and the cradle holds hit strong so you can use the wheel without any problem. I saw some complaints listed, but I have used mine with the power on and off and have plugged my IPoD in while the unit has been powered on and off with no problems. A trip to the JVC website showed a recall for older units. Mine was a later unit and I have had it for about 6 months, so any new buyer should not have a problem (and the website says that less than 99.5% of the units sold had the recall problem for which those units were replaced at no cost and all new units have no defects). A great product, money well spent. I may even get a second one!
